Feeding Raw

You've probably heard of owners feeding their dogs raw diets, completely free from grain and very literally raw meat.   You can do the same with your rats!  Males should not receive as much protein - and there for raw - as females.  They do not need it and can develop "protein itch".  I give raw to my females weekly and my nursing moms and babies twice a week.

Some of what I feed:

Eggs - raw or hard boiled  Watching your rats figure out how to get into a raw egg is highly entertaining - but ultimately very messy.. I would suggest doing this right before cage cleaning.

Chicken - a thigh, or wing cut up is very yummy!  Added bonus - they'll eat the bone too! No mess to clean up!

Liver - I do not give this often, and typically reserve it for nursing moms to help them keep weight on.

Hearts/gizzards - Kind of gross, but the rats love them!

You can feed quite a bit more than what I've listed here, take a look at the Prey Model Raw Diet.
