Cages - The Good and the Bad

Having the proper cage for your pets is very important.  Rats are smart, adventurous little critters and if they can find a way to escape your cage to go exploring - they'll do it!  Having a cage that isn't a hazard to their health is a lot of owners top concern.

The Top half of my girl's DCN.

Critter Nations (CN)
These cages are hugely popular in the rat community.  They're huge, sturdy, and give your rats plenty of room to play.  When I first started breeding I had two DCNs (double critter nations) for my colony.

The downside: If you have a large colony, the easiest method of cleaning is to take them outside and hose them down.  Unfortunately, these cages are HEAVY.  When I bought mine the shipping weight was 100lbs.  Getting them out onto my porch requires one step, and getting them past this step is a pain, and has put extra wear on the bottom shelf.

You can find these just about anywhere, from PetsMart, to ebay to Amazon.  They are pretty pricey, but if you hold out for sales you can usually save a bundle.  Alternatively you can buy second hand. These cages do stand up for a while, and people sell them for hugely discounted rates.

"Yescom"

These cages are a great cage in that the shelves have nice wide spacing so waste doesn't get stuck, but falls thru.  Bumble foot is always a concern, but the wide spacing on these shelves prevents that from happening.    These cages are much lighter than the DCNs as well, though just as sturdy.

Because of their weight and easy of moving them around I'll actually be converting to these cages in the near future.

Cages For Sale

I am NOT a retail seller, these cages HAVE been used, and for various reasons I am selling.  There's nothing wrong with the cages.
